Developing personal coping strategies for dealing with anxiety
The goal of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is to analyse your current problems and to solve these by modifying negative thought patterns. The method focuses mainly on the present moment and the interaction between the therapist and the client.
Changing dysfunctional thinking
CBT believes that changing unhelpful patterns in cognition leads to change in behaviour and emotional reaction. Instead of analysing the client's past, CBT focuses on identifying current critical behaviours and loking at how these can be changed.
The benefits of CBT in treating anxiety
According to the National Association of Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, CBT is considered to be one of the most successful forms of psychotherapy. Psychotropic drugs often have negative side effects. CBT however, assumes that the client himself has the power to change negative emotions. According to CBT, external events are not responsible for our moods and research has found that CBT works as a natural remedy for anxiety.
