The difference between sadness and depression is that sadness (even extreme sadness) is a natural reaction to unpleasant events. Sadness gets better over time, whereas depression does not. How psychotherapy can help with depression:

Psychotherapy can help to understand what the causes of your depression are. You will learn how to approach and manage your feelings of depression. I offer cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) methods to provide practical tools that will help you to break free from the patterns of sadness and inability to change the situation. "How long does it take to work?"

The length of treatment will vary from one individual to another. Acute difficulties usually require fewer sessions than chronic conditions. The method I use for treating depression is cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT. This is a highly effective psychotherapy which generally works fast. CBT focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes can affect your feelings and behaviour. You will learn to reframe harmful thought patterns and CBT will teach you helpful coping mechanisms.
